One night with the wrong woman can change your life….
Jack Simon’s road to the White House has been a smooth one until a night with the notorious Donovan James becomes a roadblock he can’t escape. Suddenly he’s America’s number one story and it has nothing to do with politics. Jack’s tangled with this woman before and knows they’re no good together. The only thing they are good for is a four letter word--hurt. He should get on with his life and concentrate on his job. But that’s hard to do when the one thing standing in his way, is the one thing he wants the most…
Donovan James, international singing sensation, has made a living singing songs about heartache and pain, two things she grew up on. But it’s time to set down some roots and the only man she wants is a man she’s all wrong for. A man she’s never stopped loving—Jack Simon. They’d had it all once, until they didn’t. And yet she can’t help but wonder if a second shot together just might be the game changer she needs. Or if old secrets can still ruin the only man she’s ever loved…
Jack is the second book in Juliana Stone's the Family Simon series. I hadn't read the first book when I read Jack and I had no problems getting into Jack or understanding anything. I will definitely be going back and reading the first book as I await the next in the series.
The last thing Jack Simon expected was for his famous singer ex-girlfriend to show up at his fundraiser for his bid for Senator, and to say that he is shocked and angry would be an understatement. There are still sparks there for sure, but Jack is determined to keep his distance. When his meddling sister has sets him up on a vacation with Donovan he knows that he is in trouble. Jack and Donovan start arguing and before long they are giving into the passion between them. But when Donovan runs leaving only a note, Jack has other ideas. Can Jack and Donovan have a second chance together? Or will secrets from their past and new obstacles in their present keep them from having a future together?
I understood where Jack was coming from when it came to Donovan. He had been kept in the dark and didn't have a clue what all had happened. Donovan had never opened up to him and had ran. I liked that he was finally able to admit his feelings had never gone away no matter how hard he had tried to bury them, and I loved that he was still protective of her. Donovan had been put in a bad position by several people, and honestly I can understand why she made the choices that she did. She might not have done what was best for everyone, but she did what she thought was right. She had never quit loving Jack though. It was good to see her decide to go after what she wanted with him and to stop settling because of what others thought and said. I thought that Jack and Donovan had really great chemistry, and their bickering was just proof of their passion and feelings.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I thought that there was wicked chemistry between Jack and Donovan. I need to go back and read Tuckers book before the next book comes out so that I am all caught up with this series. I look forward to reading more from Juliana Stone and can't wait for Maverick.
