5 Flaming Star Series Review ~ Fierce Series by Clarissa Wild ~ Featuring Newly Released Book Flame

                                  Fight (Fierce 0.5) by

Mocked. Scolded. Smeared. Betrayed.

From an early age, shy nerd girl Autumn Blakewood didn't know how to fend for herself. Teased and bullied her whole life, she's withdrawing more and more. Not even her broken family can help her get through high school.
Her only friends, Brody and Evie, are both social recluses too, and they seek comfort in each other's support. However, Autumn's friends can't always protect her from her malicious classmates who seem set on destroying what's left of her heart.
When Autumn thinks her life can't get any worse, devastating news rips her family apart. It's up to her to pick up the pieces of her life and find a way to fix everything. Will she find the courage to fight?

Fight is a short and sweet read about some of Autumn’s experiences growing up. I was surprised at the range of emotions this short story sparked in me. Autumn has dealt with bullies since she was just a kid and continues to live under their judgment throughout high school. Meanwhile, her family is facing their own issues, leaving her no place to feel safe or wanted. As I read a little more of her story my heart ached for her.

“They start laughing again. It hurts so much to hear the sound. It’s like they took my heart, cut it from my chest, and stomped on it.”

Her friendship with Brody becomes clear and we finally get to understand why it was so difficult for her to see anything negative in him. We also get a glimpse into her friendship with Evie and why they clung to each other and how they became so important in each other’s lives.

“Each time they mention something, I question whether they are right or not. Every word they utter chips away a little, eating at my soul. Somehow, their words seep into my brain and make me believe they’re actually right.”

Overall, this was a great addition to Clarissa Wild’s Fierce series. This quick read will expand your understanding of Autumn and help you accept many of her personality quirks that may seem puzzling at times. Fight is the perfect addition to this wonderful series!

Fight for your dreams. Fight for your life. Fight for love.

Nerdy girl Autumn Blakewood is the prime example of a goody two-shoes. She studies every night, is never late for class, and always follows the rules. She has never felt the need to step out of her comfort zone. That is, until she meets Hunter.

Hunter Bane is a cocky, confident bad-boy, who's nothing but trouble. He’s a dangerous distraction to everyone around him. Sexy and strong, Hunter enjoys the swooning effect he has on women. Especially those who aren't used to attention, like Autumn.

Autumn finds it hard not to give into Hunter’s advances, even though it all seems like a game to him. Trying to understand him is impossible, because he shrouds himself in mystery.
What she doesn't know is that Hunter has more baggage than anyone should have to carry. When she discovers he's in an illegal frat club to save the one person that matters to him, Autumn realizes this could mean the end of her undeniable connection to him. Even their lives are at risk.
But it's too late to turn back now ...

Ok, let me tell you, I totally fell in love with Hunter and Autumn.  This is truly a story about having faith in the face of doubt, holding out hope when things seem hopeless, and finding that someone who will always fight for you.  Let me explain a little about what touched me so much about this book.

Autumn Blakewood is a geek to the core.  She was picked on and put down all through high school.  She is scared as hell about starting college.  She is afraid that she will be treated the same way.  She does not see herself as much in the way of looks and personality.  Growing up very poor, what she wants most is to succeed in her studies, so that she can give her family a better life.  She is happiest when she is surrounded by books, and her best friends Brody and Evie.  Although, something seems to be happening with Brody and he is not the same person that use to stick up for her in high school, the one to have her back and protect her.  She is totally taken off guard when the hottest, sexiest, most dangerous guy that she has ever laid eyes on takes an interest in her.  Little does she know, her association with Hunter Bane could be her downfall in more ways than one.

Hunter Bane is built like a mac truck. He has the looks and the attitude that make most girls drool and most guys keep their distance.  But from the moment that Hunter lays eyes on Autumn (Leafy as he likes to call her) he can't seem to get her out of his head.  He goes out of his way to be near her, even though he knows that having her near could put her in danger.  See Hunter is in a club that demands their members sell drugs and fight in the arena for money, but he is doing all of this to try and save his older brother Jessie, who has taken care of him his entire life, and now Jessie is in prison.  All Jessie has ever wanted for Hunter was for him to live a good life, go to school and make something of himself.  But with a learning disability slowing him down, his interest in Leafy growing stronger, and the dangers around the them getting worse, Hunter will have to make some decisions that could put himself and everyone he cares about in great danger.

What I loved most about Hunter and Autumn is that they never gave up.  They are fighters by nature, whether by choice or by the circumstances, they are always trying to see the best in each other.  Even when Autumn does not understand why Hunter is acting and doing the things that he is doing at the time, her faith in the him never truly wavers.  She sees the scared, hurting person inside the rough and tough outer shell.  Hunter will stop at nothing to insure that Autumn is safe.  He loves his brother and will do anything to see him free, but not at the expense of Autumn's safety.  He knows that it is because of her that his life has meaning, it is because of her that he feels he can over come the learning disability that has plagued him all of his life, it is because of her that he strives to be a better person, someone worthy of her faith and love.

I totally fell in love with these two character, and their chemistry is off the charts.  I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

Would you risk everything for love?

Life has held nothing but hardships for Hunter Bane. Growing up with a learning disability wasn’t easy, especially when you’re poor. With only his brother to support him, Hunter clings to the short moments of happiness in life. Like when he meets Autumn Blakewood.

Autumn Blakewood is a geek at heart. Reading is her passion, and she can’t spend one day without her books. She’s always locked up in her room studying, trying to avoid trouble. Until Hunter comes into her life.

Hunter can’t resist the temptation to get closer to Autumn. She is his complete opposite, and yet he’s drawn to her in ways he can’t explain. But when his brother is caught dealing drugs and sent to prison, Hunter’s world shatters.
To save his brother, Hunter has to join the gang he’s feared his entire life. Now he’s forced to choose between his family and the one girl he loves. Fighting for both, his fury is all he needs…

Ok, I have to give BIG KUDOS to Clarissa Wild for the way that she wrote Fury.  In Fierce, we say the story of Autumn and Hunter from Autumn's POV, in Fury, we see the same story, but this time from Hunter's POV.  We got to understand the reasons why Hunter was the way that he was, the circumstances behind his temper, his need to succeed, his love for his brother and Autumn, and his desire to protect them at all costs.  What truly made this book remarkable was the consistency between the stories.  This author did an amazing job recreating Fury without missing the finer points of Fierce.  I truly loved both stories and cannot wait to sink my teeth into Flame.

                               Flame (Fierce #2) by

When trust is challenged and desire takes control, is love enough to conquer fear?

When geeky book nerd Autumn Blakewood falls for the cocky, confident fighter Hunter Bane she knows she’s in for life. Their undeniable connection, fueled by the desire to protect, grows stronger every passing second. However, the need to feel cherished threatens her college graduation, family bonds, and future, tearing her apart, but she won’t give up on Hunter so easily …

After he was abandoned by his family, Hunter Bane struggles to cope with daily life. Having a learning disability turns every task into a challenge. With his brother now free, Hunter feels the pressure to succeed and take care of the people he loves, forcing him to choose between college and a job. Hunter’s devotion to Autumn keeps him on the right path. His infatuation with her turns lust into passion, drawing out his alpha tendencies. But with affection comes admission, putting a strain on their relationship as secrets are exposed and unforeseen circumstances spiral out of control.

Being complete opposites, their love is flaming hot, but it burns away all inhibitions, unveiling the fears that were locked deep inside. As past and present collide, difficult choices must be made. Can Autumn and Hunter’s love survive this ultimate test?

Ok, I loved Fierce, I loved Fury, but I have to say, Clarissa Wild really knocked it out of the park with Flame.  This story picks right up where Fury left off and keeps the reader glued until the very end.  It opens with Hunter and Autumn picking up Jessie from prison.  Now that the drug gang has been dissolved, Jessie is free and there is nothing standing in their way, the big question on my mind was, how will they make their love work when they are not in the middle if a mystery.

Hunter is not keen on the idea of his brother working himself into the ground to try and support the both of them and pay for his college tuition.  Knowing that school is a struggle and that it is just not for him, he quits, and does what he does best.  He fights.  Although Jessie is furious with Hunter's decisions, Autumn understands and respects Hunter's decision.  She knows his struggles with a learning disability and respects that Hunter does not want to be a burden to Jessie.  Hunter still has issues with trusting that Autumn can love him as much as he loves her, and he worries that the animal inside him, the fierce way that he loves her, will scare her away.

Autumn has issues of her own.  Still struggling with the memories of the bullying that she experienced in High School, some of the situations that she and Hunter are in takes her back to that place.  She loves Hunter, but she is afraid to give up control to him.  She knows in her heart that he will never hurt her, but in her head, she keeps remembering all of the mean and hurtful things that she experienced at that hands of the bullies at school.  Add to this that her family is not thrilled with her choice of boyfriend.  But Autumn proved to have more faith and courage than she thinks.

In the end, the story is about growth, following your heart, having faith and finding trust in each other.  I totally loved Hunter and Autumn.  I loved the struggles that they faced together and the fears that they had on their own.  This just made them more realistic in my mind and added a depth to the story that made me want more.  This was truly a wonderful ending to this story.  I am hoping and praying that there will be more to come.
